Koenigsknecht Dentistry has a position available for a part-time Registered Dental Hygienist to join our team for two days per week. There is flexibility with the schedule in terms of which days of the week the hygienist would be scheduled. There is also opportunity for filling in the other days of the week.

Dental Hygienist Job Description & Responsibilities:

Pay: Negotiable and commensurate with experience

Our growing dental practice seeks a dental hygienist to join our team of professionals. A qualified individual will possess excellent communication and listening skills as well as a friendly, confident and calm demeanor. The hygienist will also work most effectively in a highly detailed, focused environment.

Dental Hygienist Daily Job Duties:

  • Patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse
  • Taking digital dental radiographs
  • Removing calculus and plaque from all surfaces of the teeth, applying preventive materials to the teeth (fluorides) and teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health

(e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)

  • Counseling patients about treatment plans and the value of dental health
  • Performing clinical documentation and office management activities
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols and waste management regulations.
  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Licensure and Credentials:

  • Unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in the State of Michigan
  • Current CPR certification

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to use loupes and a light and practice manual dexterity skills

Ability to manage time and tasks

Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability

Ability to practice honest and ethical behavior and accountability

Ability to self-evaluate

Typical Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with the practice of modern oral hygiene will be performed on a repetitive basis. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize telephone, computer terminals and copiers is required. Lifting and carrying boxes of supplies is routinely needed on a weekly basis. Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered.
